Spring gives a carpet of purple mixed with green. Years ago I picked up a couple of little starts of Woolly Speedwell, Veronica pectinata. It is one of the first blue carpets that cover the gardens.
Next to my little pink and yellow little garden house is this little area. I catch water in the containers seen on the left. Sweet Woodruff,Galium odoratum with its little white flowers is the ground cover in the center.
This little spot carpets next to the just leafing out roses. Woolly thyme is to the right. The cement steps I made from left over construction cement, sea shells and some disposable cake pans.
This is from the front yard
Lining the front sidewalk. After the blooms fade the plants still look great. They are grey-green and drought tolerant.
The first flowers
Our spring has been cool. We still have tulips, the crab apples are blooming about a month late, and the lilacs are almost open. But, it all looks so clean and green and filled with promise.

It looks beautiful, Gloria. Every time I see your garden, it makes me smile. It's a very comforting place.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the freshness of spring. The carpet of blue looks wonderful.

Beautiful! This is our first week of consistently nice weather in ND. We're relishing it by fervently planting our farm fields and gardens. Our lilacs are a week away from blooming, but it's wonderful to finally see the apple tree blooms.
ReplyDeleteOnce again, i stand in awe of your garden. jim
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I love the blue carpet amidst the stones, accented with tulips and other flowers. It is a look I am trying to achieve in my Lady Garden, but the going (growing!) is slow. I am glad spring has finally come to your part of the country!
ReplyDeleteHey! We're growing the same perky red and white tulips! I'm with Annie's Granny... every visit to your blog puts a smile on my face. You have such a sweet cottage garden theme going on. I love it. Hope all is well in S.D.
ReplyDeleteHi Annie, I am looking forward to tomatoes! Hope your gardening plans are a success
ReplyDeleteHi Eileen - I am excited about spring. Gloria
ReplyDeleteHi Kirsti - We have had a couple of years of good rain and the lilacs and beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Jim, you are too kind. This year for our anniversary I didn't ask for Buffalo Poo but we bought supplies so that we can set up some automatic irrigation. Gloria
ReplyDeleteHi Deb, I'm sure your Lady Garden is wonderful! These plants love the dry gardens
ReplyDeleteHi Kate, all is well around here. I am anxious to get my tomatoes in the ground. I have potatoes coming up! Remember, if you come this way, you have to stay here - Gloria
ReplyDeleteGloria, Now that school is done and I'm back in Maine, I'm finally getting a chance to get caught up with blogs. When you blogged about this groundcover Veronica last year, I thought "I should plant this in my garden." This year, I've made a note of it! It really is lovely. -Jean
