This picture is from this fall. Years ago I bought this lovely rock toad planter from a neighbor. Last year I planted Sedums Acre. It was a success! Sedums Acre is a tiny succulent with shallow roots. I also love these little Tagetes, French Marigolds.
Ted and I just got back from two wonderful weeks in Mexico. I will later give you all the details. Now this fancy toad caught my eye!

Last year this toad was by our pond. I think he thinks he is blending in with our beautiful pink limestone.

I love that kind of marigold, is it T. patula? I planted some 2 yrs ago hoping they will reseed, i planted the dried flowers, but nothing emerged the next growing season. I am scared of the real toads.
ReplyDelete"Toad" coupled with the word "lovely" is an unusual combination :) But I think with pink granite it comes close.
ReplyDeleteCool recipe, where do you find sorghum flour? The only place I've ever seen sorghum outside of a large farm is in birdseed. I've been rawfood dieting for months now and can well relate to invention in the kitchen. I made raw hummus today, half way though I had my doubts, but the finished product is delicious and can't wait to share it with my husband (if he get's home before its gone :)
Andrea, yes t.patula. I planted them because with their scent they repel insects. I planted them around my beets and they helped keep beet miners away. I had a previous year of beet miners. Thanks - I am afraid of snakes, but the toads are cute...so slow and chubby.
ReplyDeleteSukhmandir, Sorghum flour can be found here in the health food stores and also from places like Amazon.com - Sorghum is good tasting, a bit sweet. Your hummus sounds delicious! I love beans of all kinds. I try to rotate my foods. I imagine with a raw foods diet, you are quite creative. Right now I have a sourdough quinoa flour culture and a rye flour culture and a barley flour culture started. I have a spelt/wheat flour sourdough that I have had for going on 3 years. And, I have water kefirs...I should post on this - thanks
ReplyDeletethe toad did blend in!! i am ready to plant those flowers again...
ReplyDeleteI am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.
Love the toads, the planter, the fancy guy, and the limestone! Hope I can find a planter as cute as yours for my new back porch!
ReplyDeleteI love toads! We had so many of them at our last house, that in spring our pond would seethe with toad tadpoles. I must admit, as much as I love the planters, I think the last toad is my favorite (and that pink limestone is gorgeous too)!
ReplyDeleteLove blooms!

ReplyDeleteHi Susan - Your construction project looks exciting. A toad planter would be very nice.
ReplyDeleteHi Clare - I added some stones to make access in and out to my pond. I hope lots of toads will make a home here. They eat so many insects!
